What to see at the Bellini Garden

The Giardino Bellini — known to locals simply as 'a Villa — is Catania's oldest and largest public park, dedicated to the composer Vincenzo Bellini. Laid out in the 19th century, it climbs over two small hills crossed by tree-lined avenues, with ornamental ponds, a music kiosk, busts of illustrious Sicilians and wide terraces that open onto the city and, on clear days, Mount Etna.

It is a relaxing green break between sights: families love the open lawns and the small playground, while the floral clock and the flower-bed calendar — replanted each day to show the current date — are a classic photo stop. The main entrance is on central Via Etnea, a short walk from Piazza Duomo, so the garden pairs naturally with a stroll through the baroque centre.
