What to see on Mount Etna
Mount Etna, at around 3,350 metres, is the highest and most active volcano in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its slopes range from black lava deserts and steaming craters to green vineyards and chestnut woods, offering a different landscape at every altitude.
From the apartment you can reach Etna Sud (Rifugio Sapienza) in about 40–50 minutes, the base for the cable car, guided crater hikes and 4x4 jeep tours. Adventurous visitors trek to the summit craters with authorised guides, while families enjoy the lower Silvestri craters, lava caves and the nearby Alcantara Gorges. Sunset tours are especially memorable.

How far is Mount Etna from the apartment?
Etna Sud (Rifugio Sapienza) is about 40–50 minutes by car (roughly 25–30 km) from Sant'Orsola Holiday Home in Misterbianco.
Can I go up Etna without a guide?
You can freely explore the lower Silvestri craters and take the cable car; to approach the summit craters an authorised volcanological guide is required.
What should I bring?
Sturdy shoes, layers and a windproof jacket — it is much cooler and windier at altitude, even in summer.
